Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke is a distinguished contemporary art gallery with roots stretching back over three decades, known for its rigorous and conceptually engaged exhibitions that present both established and emerging artists working across painting, sculpture and other media. The gallery has played a crucial role in introducing Indian contemporary art to global audiences and fostering sustained dialogue between local and international practices, making it a key player in India’s art ecosystem.
The gallery was founded by Usha Mirchandani and her daughter Ranjana Steinruecke, whose combined curatorial vision and international experience have shaped its identity. Usha’s early career in New York exposed her to formative art movements, and she later established India’s first professional art consultancy before launching the gallery in Mumbai in 2006. Together they have nurtured significant Indian artists and expanded the gallery’s reach with a second space in New Delhi, reinforcing its impact on contemporary art in South Asia.

Nature Morte

Nature Morte is a highly respected contemporary art gallery originally established in New York’s East Village in the early 1980s and later revived in New Delhi in 1997 as a commercial and curatorial experiment. It has become synonymous in India with challenging, concept-driven exhibitions across media such as conceptual art, photography, installation and lens-based practices, and has represented a generation of Indian artists who have gone on to international exposure. With multiple spaces including a location in Mumbai’s Colaba art district, Nature Morte continues to champion innovative artistic voices and foster creative dialogue on both national and global stages.
The gallery is led by co-directors Peter Nagy and Aparajita Jain, whose combined curatorial vision and international experience have shaped its identity. Nagy revived the gallery in India to spotlight experimental contemporary art, and Jain’s leadership has expanded its reach and engagement within global art networks. Situated in a restored historic space, the gallery has become known for presenting ambitious exhibitions that explore socio-political narratives, material intensity and innovative artistic practices, making it a key platform for discovering the future of contemporary art in the region.
The gallery was founded in 2006 under the adventurous directorship of Sree Banerjee Goswami, a second-generation gallerist who grew up immersed in art — her mother, Supriya Banerjee, had established Galerie 88 in Kolkata in 1988. Under Sree’s leadership, Project 88 remains committed to nurturing emerging talent while working with intellectually rigorous mid-career artists and regularly participates in major international art fairs, positioning its artists on global platforms.
